Pappu poll role wish

Patna, Jan. 11: Seemanchal strongman Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, today met his youth wing, Yuva Shakti, and asserted that he would play a role in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Pappu, following his acquittal in the murder case of CPM MLA from Purnea, Ajit Sarkar, from Patna High Court in May last year, has become eligible to contest the polls.

Pappu, who has been an MP for three terms, did not contest the 2009 elections because he had been convicted in the case. Though he expressed his inclination to “play a role” in the 2014 elections, he did not prefer to reveal at this stage which formation he would join.

“I will reveal my electoral strategy after January 26,” said Pappu before adding: “After January 26, I will decide whether or not to join existing political formations or to go my own way.”

However, his wife and former MP Ranjit Ranjan, who had contested the Supaul Lok Sabha seat in 2009 on the Congress ticket, continues to be in the party. She is most likely to bag the Congress ticket again from Supaul for the 2014 polls.

Asked if he would join the party of his wife, Pappu said: “My wife is in the Congress. It is a fact. I am not in a position at this stage to tell where I will go. You will know it after January 26 only.”

Sources said the leader who enjoys a Robin Hood-like image in the Kosi belt might contest either from Purnea or Madhepura, the two seats he has already represented in the Lok Sabha in the past.
