Akhil prod for unity on ST status

Bongaigaon, Jan. 9: KMSS president Akhil Gogoi has urged Koch-Rajbongshi leaders to be united to press for Scheduled Tribe status for the community.

Attending an awareness meeting organised by ad hoc Bongaigaon district unit of the SMSS (Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti) today at Panchapur, Akhil made this clarion call in favour of the Koch-Rajbongshi community.

The SMSS, being the student wing of the KMSS, arranged the meeting to mobilise the people to form the KMSS district body in Bongaigaon.

In Panchapur village, around 10km from Bongaigaon Sadar, most of the peasants have been facing a hard time because of poor harvest affected by insufficient rainfall. So, to address these poor farmers, Akhil joined the meeting today along with general secretary Kamal Kumar Medhi.

“Koch-Rajbongshis are not getting tribal status because of lack of unity among them,” Akhil said. So, he believes that Koch-Rajbongshi leaders should be united in demanding “tribal status” from the Centre.
