Cong diktat for leaders

Ranchi, Jan. 9: Congress general secretary in-charge of Jharkhand B.K. Hariprasad today came down heavily on a faction of leaders for speaking in public against the party’s decisions and policies.

Visibly upset over growing clamours within the Jharkhand unit, Hariprasad threatened to take strict action if anyone “failed to toe the party line”.

The AICC general secretary was chairing the working committee meeting at the state party headquarters in Ranchi.

“You are free to raise your voice within the four walls of the party. If you have complaints against me or against the state leadership, you are free to approach the central leadership too. But, such things (speaking publicly) will not be tolerated,” Hariprasad told state leaders.

The warning came a day after former MLA Manoj Yadav’s “unsavoury” letter to state Congress chief Sukhdeo Bhagat got leaked in the media, causing humiliation to the party leadership.

Sources alleged that Yadav deliberately leaked his letter, in which he criticised Bhagat and questioned his decisions using impolite adjectives.

Giving a last chance to party leaders, Hariprasad said, “Any indiscipline will be dealt with strongly.”

During the meeting, Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu also came in the line of fire with a number of leaders pointing out that the former state unit chief was frequently issuing statements against the state leadership.

Later, speaking at a news conference, the senior Congress leader said nobody would be allowed to make any comment in public or hold any programme in the party’s name without prior permission from the state leadership.

In view of the coming parliamentary elections, the working committee today discussed strengths and weaknesses of the organisation

Hariprasad directed state leaders to hold programmes in all 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in the next two months to highlight achievements of the UPA government.

“Also, we will observe Sankalp Diwas in Ranchi on January 30 to expose the fascist face of Narendra Modi and communal agenda of the BJP,” Bhagat said.
