US says Devyani allowed to leave country

Washington, Jan. 9: Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade was reported to have left the US on Thursday although she was indicted in New York City.

Prosecutors told the judge that Khobragade had been given diplomatic immunity and she had left America on Thursday.

But her lawyer said she had not left the country as of Thursday.

The diplomat was accused of furnishing false information to obtain a work visa for her housekeeper Sangeeta Richard, and her arrest and strip-search triggered an uproar in India.
