Rape stench in triple murder

Behrampore, Jan. 7: The mother and daughter found dead in a Behrampore flat along with an elderly relative were raped, an official of Murshidabad Medical College, where the post-mortem was conducted, said.

The post-mortem report has revealed that the 18-year-old girl, her 42-year-old mother and their 72-year-old relative were throttled to death.

The Murshidabad Medical College official said the girl had been raped by more than one person.

“The private parts of the young girl had multiple injuries. There were injury marks on her mouth and chest, too. According to our findings, more than one person had raped her. We have also found some substance in her stomach that suggests she had been drugged,” the official said.

District police chief Humayun Kabir said three persons from Behrampore town had been detained for interrogation today. They were released later. The police refused to divulge the identities of the trio.

The police have started a murder case based on a complaint lodged by the elder sister of the 42-year-old woman. “We will not say anything more till we get the post-mortem report,” Kabir said.

An investigating officer said six dinner plates were found on the dining table in the two-bedroom flat on the ground floor. Sources said the 500sqft flat in a middle-class neighbourhood was worth between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 12 lakh. The flat was in the name of the 42-year-old woman.

“Parathas and sweets were found on the dining table, which indicate that those who had come were known to the three women. We suspect that at least four persons had come to the flat before the murders,” the officer said.

According to a relative, the 42-year-old lady had been working as an insurance agent.

“Questioning neighbours, we have learnt that people used to visit the flat frequently. The 42-year-old woman used to refer to them as insurance customers. The neighbours also told us that the mother and daughter used to visit a local beauty parlour at least twice a month,” an officer said.
