KSU against Pariat’s extension

Shillong, Jan. 5: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) today opposed the Meghalaya government’s decision to extend the service of chief secretary W.M.S. Pariat by another six months.

It also questioned whether there was any “hidden agenda” behind granting such an extension. On December 30, a notification from the state government declared that Pariat’s service has been extended from January 1, 2014 to June 30, 2014.

“Once the service comes to an end, there is no need to give an extension as there are many more officers who are capable of taking up the job,” KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa said. By giving an extension to Pariat, it would create a hurdle for other officers, he added.

“Is the government bereft of officers who are capable enough of taking up the chief secretary’s post or is there a hidden agenda behind the extension?” Jyrwa asked.
