Sandbar recce for safe kite carnival

- Arrangements for fun & grub to woo visitors on Makar Sankranti

District magistrate (DM) N. Saravana Kumar and principal secretary, tourism, B. Pradhan on Sunday visited Sabbalpur Diara to oversee the preparations for the kite festival ahead of Makar Sankranti on January 14.

Thousands of people take part in the fight of kites at the festival, being organised at the sandbar for the past two years. Chief minister Nitish Kumar would inaugurate the festival at the sandbar, which is to be developed as a tourist spot as well.

Pradhan, while inspecting the sandbar, located a few kilometres from Kali Ghat near Patna University, gave instructions to make elaborate arrangements for the festival.

The important arrangements include barricading the area for safety of participants, makeshift toilets, facility of drinking water, adequate number of boats with divers, volunteers, proper lightning and deployment of security personnel.

“The focus should also be on keeping the sandbar clean and for that, people should be deputed to guide the visitors to use dustbins to throw waste. The area should be developed in such a way so that the people can come here and spend quality time with their family members,” Pradhan instructed the DM.

Separate food and kids’ zones would also be set up for the festival.

The DM said: “Adequate number of police forces would be deployed. We would ensure that no untoward incident takes place. Volunteers would also guide the visitors. The district administration would ensure that the area stays happening all the time.”
