Ranchi, Jan. 4: Books and stethoscopes will take a back seat for RIMS students. For, Synergy is here.
The 19-day annual sports and cultural fest will kick off on the RIMS campus from January 7. This year, the theme of the annual event is ‘Shark’. As many as 20 students of the 2010 batch will form the organising committee who will monitor every aspect of the fest.
While addressing mediapersons today, RIMS director Tulsi Mahto, also chairman of the organising committee of Synergy 2014, said: “It has been a long journey since we started hosting this annual fest. We completed almost a decade in 2013. This year, too, we are expecting a phenomenal response and have planned each event meticulously.”
According to the organising committee, there will be 13 outdoor and indoor sports events, including handball, badminton, kabaddi and volleyball. A string of other contests like rangoli, mehendi, face painting, collage, calligraphy, best out of waste and treasurer hunt are also on the list.
Cultural programmes will include dance, skit, antakshari, ad mad and ramp shows.
“On the inaugural day, participants can warm up with two indoor games, carrom and chess, while from January 17 other sports activities — chess, tennis, volley ball, badminton, kabaddi, kho-kho — will pump up the adrenaline. The fest will provide a great platform to showcase talent,” Mahto said.
“We will host offstage events like rangoli, T-shirt and face painting competitions from January 10 to 15. Antakshari and skit contests will be held on January 23, 24 and 25,” he added.
“However, the cynosure of the fest will be the kite flying competition that will be held on January 14 to mark the occasion of Makarsankranti. It was started by the 2009 batch last year,” Mahto added.
Enthusiasm soared high among the students. “I was always active in sports. I am looking forward to sweating it out in volleyball,” said Anup Kumar of the 2010 batch.
