London: Chelsea’s Frank Lampard and Branislav Ivanovic will be out of action until the end of January.
Following a 3-0 win at Southampton that left his side two points behind EPL leaders Arsenal, manager Jose Mourinho said the injuries they sustained in Saturday’s 2-1 home win over Liverpool would rule the pair out for about a month.
Serbian Ivanovic suffered a knee injury and was substituted in the first half while Lampard sustained a muscle injury and did not come out for the second half.
They will miss Sunday’s FA Cup third-round tie at Derby County before Chelsea play league games at Hull City and at home to Manchester United and West Ham United later this month.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are facing a crisis in attack ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur with Nicklas Bendtner injuring his ankle scoring in the 2-0 win over Cardiff City.
The Dane replaced the Lukas Podolski in the second half but, having made a big impact during his 23 minutes on the pitch, he had to come off near the end and joins first-choice striker Olivier Giroud on the sidelines. (reuters)
