Calcutta/Agartala: Jammu and Kashmir created history on Thursday as they qualified for the Ranji Trophy quarter finals for the first time after their Group C encounter against Tripura ended in a draw.

Despite the drawn match, J&K’s passage to the quarters was thrilling. They entered the last-eight stage by virtue of a first-innings lead, which earned them three crucial points. They ended tied on 28 points with Goa, but qualified on the basis of their marginally better points quotient.

J&K had a quotient of 1.006 as against Goa's 1.005 after ending the fourth and final day at 87 for two in a chase of 228.

Uttar Pradesh also sealed a quarter final berth after their final Group B league match against Railways ended in a draw. UP ended at second spot in Group B, ahead of Bengal on a better quotient, while Railways are on top of the group with 28 points.

In the quarters, Mumbai will face Maharashtra at the Wankhede while Bengal will play host to Railways. Karnataka will host Uttar Pradesh at the Chinnaswamy Stadium and Punjab will play against Jammu and Kashmir in Motibaug, Baroda.
