Southern Sporting win

Imphal, Jan. 2: Southern Sporting Union ended the dream run of Anouba Imagi Mangal with a solitary-goal win to move into the quarter-finals of the 57th Sir Churchand Singh Football Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.

Southern Sporting dominated the game from the beginning but were unable to score in the first half.

They got the only goal in the 70th minute with Md Riyash Khan making a 40-yard shot, which surprised the Anouba keeper as it flew into the net.

Southern Sporting will meet NEROCA on Sunday.

Southern players L. Gogocha, Md Sahidur Rehman, Syed Farid and Anouba Imagi Mangal player S. Surjit, Th. Vandona were booked with yellow cards each in the match.

ARC Shillong will face Tiddim Road Athletic Union in the first quarter-final tomorrow.

Hockey: Manipur Hockey will organise the under-14 Herojit Waribam Memorial Gold Cup Hockey Tournament 2014 from January 5-12 at Grass Hockey Field at Khuman Lampak.

Five selectors have also been named to pick players for the under-14 All India K.D. Singh Babu Hockey Tournament. The selectors are L. Tiken, M. Kulajit, S. Shyambabu, M. Rinash and Ch. Shakuntala Devi.

Football: Thangmeiband Athletic Union Sports Academy will hold the under-14 football coaching for boys from January 19 at its complex.

Assam Club: The Assam Football Association announced the 18th Assam Club Championship to be held at Gossaigaon under Gossaigaon District Sports Association from January 29.
