Jorhat, Jan. 2: Braveheart Gunjan Sharma’s father, Shankar Sharma, and her neighbour Manoj Agarwala, who was injured with the Sharmas yesterday, were today shifted from Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced treatment.
Gunjan and her mother, Maya, will be shifted to GMCH tomorrow, JMCH deputy superintendent and assistant professor Dr Purnima Baruah told The Telegraph. Gunjan’s sister Nancy was referred to GMCH yesterday after doctors found her condition to be “slightly critical”, which required neurosurgery.
Baruah said Anand Sharma, a cousin of Gunjan who suffered back injuries, was discharged from JMCH today.
Gunjan and five others suffered serious injuries in a road mishap near Hatikhuli tea estate on National Highway 37 yesterday — when the family was on its way to Guwahati.
The 13-year-old, who volunteered to go as a hostage with a kidnapper to save 10 of her co-students last month, was on her way to receive the state bravery award from chief minister Tarun Gogoi. The award ceremony was scheduled to be held at Pragjyoti ITA Cultural Centre in Guwahati — nearly 400km from her native town of Simaluguri in Sivasagar district.
