Grab a seat and sport Aamir’s cool bowler hat

- Cinema launches weeklong surprise gift scheme to lure viewers to Dhoom:3 shows

A visit to the Regent Fun Cinemas to watch Dhoom: 3 can help diehard Aamir fans resemble a bit like the circus performer-bank robber in the pacy Bollywood thriller.

A member from the audience stands to win a unique surprise gift — a bowler’s hat similar to the one Aamir’s Sahir dons in the flick — everyday. Before the release of Dhoom: 3, Salman Khan wore a similar hat on a television show. Now, residents would get the same opportunity.

Suman Kumar Sinha, the chairman and managing director of Regent Theatre Pvt Ltd, said: “To celebrate the New Year and the success of Dhoom:3, we would gift a bowler’s hat to a viewer for a week from January 3. The lucky person would find the hat placed on his/her seat at the start of the show.”

Dhoom 3 has collected Rs 235 crore in the first 13 days at the box office and is expected to make Rs 500 crore-plus worldwide. In the capital, it broke all previous records on first day collections by raking in Rs 21,07,460. Till Thursday, the film had earned around Rs 1.64 crore, the highest ever in the capital.

On the reason behind the hat scheme, Sinha said: “We always want to share happiness and celebrate with the people of the state. We also believe in bringing joy to the audience. That’s why I always say that Regent is for the people, by the people and of the people of Bihar. We have restricted the scheme with just one hat everyday because the one which Aamir wears in the movie carries a lot of value and we do not want to bring disrespect to it.”

On Thursday, Regent employees were spotted sporting bowler’s hats at work to spread the word about the new surprise gift for the viewers. While purchasing movie tickets, a few viewers enquired at the counter about how to get the special hats.

An excited Vineet Kumar, a resident of Boring Road, said: “I want to wear that hat to feel just like Aamir Khan. The hat gives one a very dashing look. I would pray to God that I get one of those hats. It would look nice on me and if required, I would not mind watching the film twice or thrice.”

A few lucky viewers would also get Dhoom 3 mouse-pads and mugs embossed with Aamir’s pictures from his other hit movies like Lagaan, Ghajini and Taare Zameen Par.

“We cannot disclose which show these surprise gifts would be given in, it would be a random process. Viewers could get it in any show. A few viewers had demanded hats similar to Aamir’s in the movie during some shows. The hats are being sourced from Delhi,” said Sinha.

It is not the first time that Regent has engaged in such activities. During the release of Krrish 3, the cinema authorities distributed Krrish badges and mugs to 300 children. At the time of Shah Rukh Khan’s Don 2, the management had distributed around 1,000 free masks of King Khan.

The film is slotted for 24 shows in the capital — Cinepolis (12), Regent Fun Cinemas (4), Mona (4) and Elphinstone (4). Even 13 days after its release, the film is getting excellent response and weekend shows are still running houseful.
