Eden will play host

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided upon the venues of the four Ranji Trophy quarter final matches although the line-up for the knock-out stage is yet to be finalised.

The league phase of the competition ends on Thursday.

“We have decided that the knockout games are to be played at identified venues. The quarter final venues are the Wankhede, Eden Gardens, the Moti Baug ground (in Vadodara) and the Chinnaswamy,” said BCCI general manager (game development), Ratnakar Shetty, here, on Wednesday.

From what it appears given the present standings, Karnataka, Gujarat and Punjab look to be the teams to qualify from Group A. In Group B, Railways have already secured a berth, while Bengal and Uttar Pradesh look to be the other two sides.

The quarter final matches would be played concurrently from January 8 at these four venues. The venues for the semi-finals and the final — to be held from January 18 to 22 and January 29 to February 2 — would be decided later. However, it was learnt that Lahli and Jaipur could be the venues for the last-four stage, while Mohali may stage the final. (AGENCIES)
