Guwahati, Jan. 1: Hosts Delhi today clinched a 57-run win against Assam to make it to the Cooch Behar Trophy under-19 cricket tournament knockouts.
The home side emerged as plate group B toppers with 22 points, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 21 points. Assam finished with 13 points earned from two victories in the first two matches of the season at home.
Delhi resumed their second innings at overnight 342 for five and went on to be all out for 415 in 75.3 overs, thanks to a five-wicket haul by Mrinmoy Dutta of Assam. The visitors were bundled out for 201 in 50.2 overs.
Delhi had earlier conceded a first innings lead of 157 runs, getting all out for 113, in reply to Assamís first innings total of 270 on Monday.
After Rishab Pant (158) and R. Sharma (108) scored a century each on the second and third days respectively, Delhiís lower middle order and the tail-enders continued to torment Assamís bowling attack.
P. Vijayran (36, 5x4), Sidhant Sharma (25, 2x4), Y. Sehrawat (14) and S. Rawat (11) were the notable scorers for the home side this morning.
Dutta returned with a haul of five wickets for 146 while Romario Sharma accounted for two for 11.
Set a target of 259 to chase, Assam had a disastrous opening in their second innings losing opener Yatin Malik for nought on the board and Hrishikesh Tamuli (8) with only 36 runs on the board.
Opener Urooj Rizvi (52, 5x4) and Biku Borgohain (36, 6x4) managed to consolidate the innings to some extent, sharing a third-wicket partnership of 66 runs before both got out in quick succession.
Skipper Wasiqur Rahman (41, 5x4, 1x6) and Rajakuddin Ahmed (27, 3x4, 1x6) were the only other Assam batsmen who could negotiate Delhi for some time. The duo shared an eight-wicket partnership of 52 runs.
Sidhant Sharma and Md Bilal of Delhi shared three wickets each conceding 22 and 54 runs respectively while P. Vijayran claimed two for 29.
