This year will be challenging for the education department as many plans and policies conceptualised in 2013 would be implemented.
As a starting, the work of search committee constituted by Raj Bhavan for appointment of vice-chancellors and pro-vice-chancellors is likely to be completed by end of February so that universities get regular vice-chancellors.
According to education department sources, the search committee till now has completed the interview process of half-a-dozen universities, including Nalanda Open, Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur, Veer Kuer Singh, LN Mithila and Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian. Candidates who have applied for Patna University are likely to appear for an interview on January 3 and 4.
Meanwhile, due to non-appointment of regular VCs, many projects, including students’ union elections, are pending. Patna University VC Arun Kumar Sinha said: “Students’ union election will be held once there is regular appointment of VCs.”
Followed by appointment of VCs and pro-VCs through search committee, the state government is going to complete the teachers’ recruitment process in the universities.
The teachers’ recruitment would be done by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) after more than 10 years. Higher education director Sitaram Singh said: “For filling the vacant post of teachers, the education department has sought development plans from different universities having actual vacancies of teachers and sanctioned strength of teachers.”
Sources said in 11 universities, the total sanctioned post of teachers is 13,484 and out of these 5,808 posts are vacant.
In Patna University, there are 399 vacant posts of teachers while the education department has given its sanction for recruitment of 415.
The idea behind seeking development plan regarding popular course is two-fold. First, to find out the actual vacancies of teachers in universities (rationalisation of teachers) and second, to find out which courses are popular and carrier oriented.
