North and South Bihar Distribution Power Companies have floated tender to cross check reading of meters of consumers except industrial ones.
The selected agency would crosscheck meter readings of consumers who complain about irregularities in energy bills. The agency would ascertain if the bills are correct or not. “The distribution companies have issued tender for the selection of agency to carry out cross checking of meter reading in the electrical supply circles. Interested parties can apply, including online, till January 3. The bids would be opened the same day (January 3),” power company sources said.
A pre-bid conference was held on December 20, during which the power company officials cleared the doubts regarding bidders’ queries. The tenders are invited from private and public sector agencies of the state and central government undertakings.
Meter reading also includes spot billing. Under spot billing, a bill is generated after reading the meter and delivered instantly.
Sources said the selected agency would visit the consumers’ places to confirm if their meter reading is according to the actual consumption. The power distribution company has decided to appoint an agency after it received a large number of complaints regarding irregularities in the meter reading.
At present, the meter reading is performed by various agencies across the state. “We have received a lot of complaints regarding bills generated are mostly that of monthly minimum charge, average, door lock, etc. The complainants said the bills are not being generated on the basis of actual consumption shown in the meter installed on their premises. So, we decided to appoint an agency that will visit the premises of the consumers to cross check the meter reading,” sources said.
The agency would cross check meter reading of five per cent of consumers after obtaining the area and consumers for cross checking from electrical superintending engineer of the circle.
