Malda, Dec. 31: Former Bengal minister and CPM leader Sailen Sarkar passed away in a nursing home this morning.
The 73-year-old leader had complained of pain in the chest last night and was rushed to the nursing home in an ambulance. Doctors attended to Sarkar and administered medication but he expired at 9.45am today.
Sarkar, who lost his wife Swati about a year ago, was suffering from various ailments. His body has been kept at the Malda district office of the CPM for people to pay tributes.
Ambar Mitra, the Malda district CPM secretary, said Sarkarís body would be cremated tomorrow.
