JB College lift trophy

Dibrugarh, Dec. 31: An all-round show by Prabal Borthakur helped Jagannath Barooah College, Jorhat annex the Dibrugarh University inter-college cricket championship title, defeating Margherita College by three wickets in the final at Dibrugarh University ground here today.

Put in to bat, the Margherita College batsmen were skittled out for a paltry total of only 46 runs in 16.3 overs, thanks to a hattrick strike by Prabal Borthakur of JB College who hauled five wickets conceding only four runs.

Javed Khan (16, 2x4, 1x6) was the only notable scorer for the Margherita side.

In reply, the Jorhat college lost seven wickets reaching 50 in 15.5 overs. Prabal Borthakur topscored for the side with 17 runs.

Bikram Bhoumick of Margherita College scalped three, conceding four runs.

Prabal Borthakur was adjudged Man of the Match and the Best Bowler.

The tournament was organised by Dibrugarh University Sports Board.

AIFF course: The AIFF-AMFA Grassroots Leaders’ Course to be conducted by an instructor from Football Federation of Australia will be held in Imphal from January 16-18. Candidates recommended by DSAs and DFAs should report on January 15 at 3pm at Khuman Lampak sports hostel, with full training kits. Course fee of Rs 400 should be submitted to AMFA before January 10.

School team: A 137-member Manipur school team left Imphal to participate in the 59th National School Games 2013-14 to be held at New Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium from January 2-8. Boxing, handball, thang ta, judo, weightlifting and wrestling are the events to be held.

Selection: Manchester United Premier Cup selection competition, 2013 for the Manipur team will be held at Artificial Turf Ground, Khuman Lampak, from January 3.
