Calcutta: Captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla feels better application from the batsmen would certainly have helped Bengal, though the rank turner at the Chepauk has had Tamil Nadu in all sorts of trouble as well.
“Batting is difficult on this track and I think the match could well be over within three days. That said, we could have done much better with the bat.
“We did have an idea about the conditions here… So I must say that we didn’t show proper application,” Shukla said from Chennai, on Monday.
The visitors would stand to gain only if they can take the remaining four Tamil Nadu wickets as quickly as possible.
“The first thing we need to do tomorrow is quickly take the remaining four wickets. Thereafter, we need to bat well in our second innings, which will ensure a firm grip over the match,” off-spinner Saurasish Lahiri, with took two scalps, said.
Saurasish is aware that he and Iresh Saxena have to come up with a major contribution on the second day. “The ball is turning square on this wicket. As of now, both Iresh and myself have taken two wickets apiece. The opportunity lies ahead to add to our wickets tally,” he said.
