Calcutta, Dec 30: The Union home secretary will call on chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Nabanna tomorrow and sources said the duo would discuss the re-emergence of the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), the outfit accused of carrying out a blast in Jalpaiguri on December 26 and firing at a passenger bus in Malda the next day .
Sources in the state home department said Union home secretary Anil Goswami and Mamata would also discuss the impact in Bengal of the violence ahead of general elections in Bangladesh.
Chief secretary Sanjay Mitra, home secretary Basudeb Banerjee, director-general of police G.M.P. Reddy and other senior officials will attend the meeting.
“The state home department has already sent a report to the Union home ministry on the Jalpaiguri blast,” said a state home department official.
Six persons died in the blast in Jalpaighuri on December 26. Although the KLO has denied its involvement in the explosion, police have said that the outfit was responsible for the attack.
The home department official said the Union home ministry had been informed about the increase in activities of suspected KLO militants along the Bengal-Bhutan border. “The Union home ministry has been asked to take up the matter with the Bhutan government,” he said.
“The militants are also suspected to be working close to the Bengal-Assam border, especially in the districts of Dhubri, Bongaigaon and Goalpara in the neighbouring state,” added the official.
