Tiddim Road enter last eight

Imphal, Dec. 30: Tiddim Road Athletic Union edged past BSF-MNC Frontier by 2-0 goals to enter the quarter-final of the 57th Sir Churchand Singh Football Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung here today. The BSF team looked convincing in the early part of the game and went on the offensive but Tiddim Road Athletic Union held their nerve to deny them the breakthrough.

Steadying their game, Tiddim Road stole the show with a quick counter-attack in the 35th minute from the left with L. Ratan teaming up with S. Surchand for a cross to Th. Premkumar who managed a quick goalline shot.

The BSF had a hard time challenging the Tiddim Road defenders in the second half.

Tiddim Road Athletic Union increased the lead in the 57th minute with S. Surchand, after getting a back heel pass from Th. Premkumar, sending a grounder with BSF keeper Balraj Singh failing to dive in time. Southern Sporting Union will take on Anouba Imagi Mangal in the pre-quarterfinal on January 2 at 1.30pm. There will be no matches on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Half marathon: Long-distance runner L. Milan Singh took the menís champion title of the Sadar Hills Half- Marathon, 2013 held at Sadar Hills. Nengbioching Hanshing walked away with the womenís title.

Miss Kangleipak: Th. Leima Chanu bagged the Best Physique title of the second Miss Kangleipak 2013 held at GM Hall. Leima Chanu represented Eastern Iron Gymnasium.
