Twin titles for Tripathy

Guwahati, Dec. 29: Alok Kumar Tripathy of Guwahati, Debangana Barkataky of Jorhat, Jugal Baruah of Guwahati and Anurag Buragohain of Guwahati annexed double crowns in the 22nd Jorhat Opens tennis championship that concluded at Jorhat Tennis Club today.

Tripathy won the men’s singles and doubles titles. He defeated Amlanjyoti Baruah (Guwahati) 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2 for the singles title and partnered Sushant Mohanty (Guwahati) to defeat Guwahati pair Tutu Thapa and Amlanjyoti Baruah 6-2, 6-1 for the doubles.

Debangana won the under-18 girls’ singles, defeating Antara Buragohain of Duliajan 6-2, 7-6 (6) and the under-14 singles defeating Guwahati girl Sanhita Vasava 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Amlanjyoti Baruah won the under-18 boys’ singles crown beating Manash Pratim Kuli of Sivasagar 6-0, 6-1.

Jugal lifted the under-14 boys’ singles title overcoming a stiff challenge from Anurag Buragohain for a 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-2 win and partnered Anurag for the under-14 doubles crown beating Satyam Goswami if Numaligarh and Pratyush Poddar of Golaghat 6-3, 6-2.

Anurag also won the under-12 boys’ singles crown defeating Anshuman Phukan of Numaligarh 6-1, 6-1.

The Jorhat tandem of Dovojyoti Borpuzari and Jiten Misra won the veteran men’s title defeating Diganta Konwar of Numaligarh and Milan Taye of Dibrugarh 9-1 in the single-setter final.
