Calcutta: With a rank turner likely on offer, at the Chepauk, Bengal are trying to ensure they keep all areas covered when their vital Ranji Trophy Group B tie against Tamil Nadu gets underway, from Monday.
Left-arm spinner Jitendra Shaw, a member of the Bengal U-25 team, was sent to Chennai on Saturday so that the batsmen are able to work further on tackling spin bowling during practice and prepare themselves enough for the challenge.
Besides, with Sandipan Das sustaining a groin injury during Saturday’s training session, Shaw will also serve as a cover for the all-rounder.
“It seems there will be a great deal of turn on the wicket on which we are supposed to play.
“We do have Saurasish (Lahiri) and Iresh (Saxena) in our ranks, but Jitendra’s presence adds to our options under the present circumstances.
“He’s certainly in our scheme of things,” a source in the Bengal team management said.
Bengal have been at the receiving end on most occasions against Tamil Nadu in the recent past. In order to qualify for the next round, they need to beat the hosts. Securing just three points won't be enough.
