Calcutta/Johannesburg: Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday named the preliminary 30-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 scheduled to be played in Bangladesh in March and April next year.
All-rounder Jacques Kallis was a notable omission from the Proteas’ preliminary 30-man squad. Kallis had announced on Wednesday that he would retire from Test cricket at the end of the ongoing Test match against India but said he was available to play for South Africa in limited overs cricket.
In particular, Kallis stated his ambition to be part of the Proteas’ 50-overs World Cup campaign in Australia and New Zealand in 2015.
A CSA spokesman said there was nothing to be read into Kallis’ non-selection for the squad announced on Friday. “Jacques has made it clear he wants to earn selection for the 50-overs World Cup.”
