The body of a young mother of three daughters was found along the railway tracks on the Howrah-Hooghly border late on Thursday evening.
Arpita Manna, 32, had left her north Calcutta home on Thursday morning.
Based on a murder complaint lodged by Arpita’s father Rabin Kumar Das, police arrested her husband Debasish, father-in-law Dulal and another woman Batasi Porel from Goabagan, Burtolla.
“Her father has alleged that she was being mentally and physically tortured for giving birth to three girls,” said an officer.
The body was found between Rajchandrapur and Dankuni stations. Multiple skull fractures were noticed.
The wounds suggest that Arpita died after “falling” off a running train or getting hit by one. A railway ticket, from Bidhannagar station to Janai in Hooghly, was found in her bag. Her husband, a computer mechanic, has claimed that he was in Ballygunge.
