A murder complaint has been lodged against the wife of television actor Atanu Mukherjee, who was found dead inside his apartment in Shibpur on Thursday.
Atanu’s elder brother Shantanu, who lodged the complaint with Shibpur police station, alleged that Mou Bhattacharya had got his brother killed to get his insurance money.
“Atanu’s body was found hanging from a blade of a ceiling fan. When the police and I entered the flat, we saw his toes were touching the floor and the fan’s blade from which he was hanging was not bent by the weight of the body,” Shantanu said, suggesting that the actor had not committed suicide.
“My brother has been killed for his insurance policy,” Shantanu wrote in the complaint, naming Mou as the suspect. Shantanu also wrote in the complaint that Mou and others had tortured Atanu.
Officers familiar with the preliminary post-mortem report said it appeared that Atanu had committed suicide. But a murder case has been lodged on the basis of Shantanu’s complaint.
Mou, a TV actress, had been shooting in north Bengal since December 20. She returned on Friday evening and performed Atanu’s last rites. “The allegations against me are baseless. I was shooting in north Bengal when it happened,” Mou said on Friday.
