Lucky break for Das

Calcutta: Inconsistency was the main reason behind Subhomoy Das’ ouster from the Bengal team prior to their previous Ranji Trophy match against Uttar Pradesh.

However, fortune seems to be on Subhomoy’s side as all-rounder Sayan Sekhar Mondal’s injury led to his recall for the game against Tamil Nadu, starting from Monday. Sayan Sekhar sustained a finger-injury during the Kalighat Club-Calcutta Customs CAB First Division League match.

The Bengal team management then preferred to choose an experienced hand, anticipating an intriguing contest in Chennai. “It’s disappointing that Sayan won’t be able to join us. But at this moment, we got to do the work with whatever little is available… There is no use crying over something we can’t avail of…

“Subhomoy is certainly a good batsman. Even though he was dropped from the squad, he did get a couple of important half-centuries in Ranji this season,” said captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla.
