Badminton meet begins

Golaghat, Dec. 26: The three-day All Assam Prize-money Open Badminton Championship, organised by Golaghat Regional Studentsí Union, got under way here today.

The championship is held in under-10, under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-19 age groups for boys and girls. The championship is also open for veteran (above-35) menís singles and doubles. More than 200 players from all over the state are participating in the event. The meet was inaugurated by president of All Assam Studentsí Union Sankar Prasad Roy. Veteran shuttler Pradip Chaliha was felicitated on the occasion.

Volleyball: Manipur Police Sports Club will face Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong in the final of the MIKHYA third state-level Menís Volleyball Tournament at Mayang in Imphal on Friday. In the semi-finals today, Manipur Police got the better of Rajput Lamphel 25-17, 25-26, 21-25, 25-21 while ARC beat home team KLLK, Mayang Imphal 25-21, 25-16, 25-20.

Soccer: Kongpal AAA drubbed SFC, Heingang 8-3 in the fifth State Level M. Rabichandra Football Tournament at Kiyamgei. L. Kiran Singh struck five goals for Kongpal while Ng. Satish, Jony, Haopok scored a goal each.

Wushu team: Wushu Association of Assam has named a 17-member team for the 12th Junior National Wushu Boysí and Girlsí Championship in Imphal from December 26.

Cricket meet: Japorigog Jyotirupa Sangha will organise an All Assam Prize-Money Cricket Tournament at Gopal Boro High School ground here from January 22 to February 3.
