Hafeez guides Pak to series win

Mohammed Hafeez

Abu Dhabi: Mohammed Hafeez’s scintillating form continues as he hit his second consecutive unbeaten hundred and third in the series, leading Pakistan to an eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI, here, at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, on Wednesday.

The win helped Pakistan wrap up the series with an unassailable 3-1 lead with one more game to go.

Chasing Sri Lanka’s modest 225, Pakistan reached home in just 41.1 overs with Hafeez not out on 113 and Sohaib Maqsood remaining unbeaten on 46. The duo shared an unbroken 111-run stand for the third wicket.

Earlier, debutant Ashan Priyanjan scored a sparkling 74 and Kumar Sangakkara (51) got his 83 rd half-century to push the Sri Lankan total to 225 after skipper Angelo Mathews opted to bat. Sri Lanka were wobbling at 36 for three as Umar Gul (three for 37) removed Kusal Perera, Tillekaratne Dilshan and Dinesh Chandimal.

Priyanjan and Sangakkara then shared an 89-run stand for the fourth wicket to fight back for Sri Lanka. Mathews then contributed with 38, but the other batsmen failed to deliver. Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal later chipped in for Pakistan, taking four wickets to dent Sri Lanka’s hopes of putting up an imposing total. (AGENCIES)
