Jharkhand shock Assam

Guwahati, Dec. 25: A century by V.B. Singh helped hosts Jharkhand shock Assam by eight wickets to clinch full points from their Cooch Behar Trophy under-19 plate group B match in Ranchi today.

The home side, who trailed by a 40-run first innings deficit, staged a commendable fightback to clinch the match. The visitors were all out for 173 in the first innings against Assamís 213. Assam posted 295 all out in 122.2 overs in the second innings this morning.

Needing 336 runs for an outright victory, the hosts reached 338 for two in 63.1 overs.

Ishan Kishan (72, 8x4, 2x6) and M.N. Siddiqui (80, 7x4) gave the home side a sound start, sharing an opening partnership of 120 runs.

V.B. Singh (120, 15x4, 2x6) made mincemeat of the Assam bowling attack to share an undefeated partnership of 121 runs for the third wicket with Kaushal Singh (47, 5x4).

Rajakuddin Ahmed got wicket of Kishan and Amar Alam accounted for Siddiqui.
