Three youths were arrested for allegedly assaulting cops at Park Street police station on Tuesday.
They were initially detained on the charge of passing lewd comments at women on Park Street on Xmas-eve.
The trio — two of who are pursuing professional courses in Delhi — were allegedly drunk.
They were produced in court on Wednesday and remanded in judicial custody.
“The youths have been identified as Kunal Sharma, Vikram Chopra and Shiladitya Purkayastha. They have been charged with using criminal force to deter public servants from discharging their duty,” said an officer of Park Street police station.
Sharma is from New Delhi while Chopra is from Noida. Purkayastha is a resident of the Survey Park area.
“After dinner at a Park Street restaurant, the trio were walking on a footpath. They and a few others started passing lewd remarks at some women standing nearby. Cops in plain clothes noticed the incident and detained 10 of the youths,” said an officer.
The detained persons were taken to Park Street police station. “Among the detained were the three youths. They were in an inebriated state and misbehaved with the cops. One of them grabbed a lock-up constable by his collar and demanded an explanation for their detention. When an officer tried to rescue the constable, the other two manhandled him,” the officer said.
As many as 202 people were arrested in the city on Tuesday for disorderly conduct, drink driving and outraging the modesty of women . On Wednesday, the arrest figure crossed 90 by the evening.
Four youths were arrested on Theatre Road and Kalighat on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting cops.
The police said a sergeant intercepted two youths on a motorcycle on Theatre Road for not wearing helmets. The duo allegedly assaulted the sergeant when he asked for their driving licence.
In Kalighat, two others were held for allegedly attacking constables of the Armed Police on Tuesday night.
