Calcutta: The political turmoil in Bangladesh has again given rise to the possibility of the World T20 being shifted out of that country. Though the International Cricket Council (ICC) is keeping fingers crossed, there’s talk that the tournament may be shifted to India.
If that happens, Calcutta and Ranchi have been shortlisted as possible venues.
“There’s been no word from the ICC. But there’s a strong possibility that the tournament will be shifted to India…
“The proximity of Calcutta and Ranchi to Bangladesh has made these two cities as possible venues in case of a last-minute shift,” said a senior Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official on Monday.
The World T20 is scheduled from March 16 to April 6.
The Asia Cup is also scheduled to be held in Dhaka from February 24 to March 7.
If this turmoil persists, it is likely that this tournament may have to be deferred.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked the CAB to keep Eden Gardens ready for the knock-out stages of the Ranji Trophy.
