Youth enter third round

Imphal, Dec. 23: N. Olen Singh’s hattrick guided Youth Development Organisation into the third round of the 57th Sir Churchand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

The Youth Development team proved too good for Manipur Police Sports Club as the latter bowed out with a 3-1 defeat.

The first half was barren. In the second half, Youth Development received a setback with S. Babul Singh being sent off with a red card for elbowing police players in the 62nd minute.

Despite being reduced to 10, the Youth Development team sprang back with N. Olen Singh connecting a deep header off a corner kick by Th. Kishan Singh for the lead. Olen Singh fetched his second goal in the 85th minute after collecting a cross from A. Nanao Singh to post a 2-0 lead.

Youth Development flourished further with the combination of Olen and Nanao Singh striking again in the 86th minute with the former tapping home his hattrick for a 3-0 lead.

A late surge by the policemen got them a face-saving goal with Khem Bahadur making a leaping header off a cross by Ksh Kanta Singh during injury time. But it was too late to save them from elimination. Policemen K. Benjamin got an yellow card in the match. In another match, Tiddim Road Athletic Union blanked Eastern Sporting Union by 5-0 goals to moves into the third round of the meet. Th. Premkumar struck two goals while L. Bikram, Ng. Ronald and N.
