Four held with arms in car

A countrymade carbine and pistol were seized from four persons travelling in a car during routine checks at Booty More in Sadar police station area of Ranchi on Monday.

Tej Pratap Singh, Ved Pratap Singh, Arun Kumar Singh and Udip Kumar Das have been arrested. All are residents of Jamshedpur and aged between 25 and 35.

Although sources claimed that the four — members of the same family — had procured the weapons from Gaya in Bihar and were taking it to Jamshedpur to settle scores with their rivals, Sadar officer-in-charge Vinay Kumar, refused to confirm it.

“Those arrested have not been interrogated so far. We can ascertain their motive behind ferrying arms and ammunition from Bihar only after properly grilling them,” Kumar said.

The police officer, however, added that an FIR would be registered under arms act.

Gaya, one of the 38 districts of Bihar, shares its border with Jharkhand. It is infamous for manufacturing illegal arms and ammunition and supplying the same to Maoist-hit states.
