Quartet hint in murder

Investigations have revealed betel leaf wholesaler Manoj Chaurasia was carrying Rs 10 lakh in his bag when he was attacked by four persons and shot dead.

Chaurasia had Rs 10 lakh in his bag when he was shot dead in the middle of the Bihta overbridge, around 30km west of Patna, on Saturday. The attackers were on two bikes.

An officer at Bihta police station said: “Prima facie, it looks like robbery could be a motive. Police are suspecting he was shot while resisting the robbery. Another possibility is Chaurasia knew his robbers and they shot him for fear of identification. The police have come to know that there were four persons on two black bikes.”

As the police are struggling to solve Chaurasia’s murder and other such attacks, an employee of a private firm was robbed of Rs 85,000 on Monday in the Dhowa Pul area of Fatuha.

The officer in charge of Fatuha police station said: “We have received information about such a case, but nobody has lodged an FIR.”

Sunita Kumari, the deputy superintendent of police (Fatuha), said: “I am out of town and not able to get in touch with the officer concerned. So, I do not have an idea.”

In another incident, phones and electronic equipment worth around Rs 6 lakh were robbed in a break-in at a shop on Shahdeo Mahto Marg in the early hours of Monday. “Investigations are on,” said an officer at SK Puri police station.
