Barekuri win, emerge champions

Dibrugarh, Dec 22: Barekuri Football Coaching Centre of Tinsukia edged past Dibrugarh Railway Sports Club 4-3 via tie-breaker after the regulation time ended in a goalless draw to claim the 10th Jintu Gogoi Football Tournament title at Chowkidinghee ground here today.

Barekuri Coaching Centre dominated the proceedings in both the halves but could not convert any of the opportunities. Dibrugarh Railway goalkeeper Dipankar Barua, too, did a commendable job making some brilliant saves.

Sonmoni Meitei of Barekuri squandered an opportunity in the 25th minute.

In the tie-breaker, Lokesh Singh, Daulat Hazarika, Sonmoni Meitei and Sonjyoti Kalita scored for Barekuri Coaching Centre. Lolding Paudite of Barekuri Coaching Centre was adjudged the Best Player and Dipankar Barua the Best Goalkeeper.

Altogether 16 teams participated in the tournament organised by the Dibrugarh battalion of the Laipuli Brigade of DAO Division under Operation Sadbhavana in association with Dibrugarh District Sports Association.
