Kokrajhar, Dec. 22: Janupriya Basumatary of Kokrajhar was adjudged the Best Boxer in the 1st NTPC Knockout Challenge Intra-BTAD School Girls’ Boxing Championship which concluded at Sports Association of India (SAI) Special Area games complex in Kokrajhar.
Janupriya Basumatary won gold in the 44kg category. Anita Rabha of Udalguri won the silver while Mamuni Basumatary of Baksa won bronze.
Kalpana Soren of Kokrajhar was adjudged the Best Loser in the tournament. She won silver in the 48kg category. Ansumwi Boro of Udalguri won the gold medal.
Jamuna Boro won the bronze medal in the 48kg category.
Kokrajhar girls won 10 medals including three gold, three silver and four bronze. Udalguri came second with eight medals — three gold, three silver and two bronze. Chirang girls won four medals — two silver and two bronze while Baksa won six medals including a silver and five bronze.
Ch. Bunty Devi claimed the ladies singles title of the 33rd Manipur State Open Tennis Championship held at Officer’s Club, Lamphelpat, reports our sports correspondent from Imphal.
The ladies singles final saw Bunty Devi get the better of H. Puja Devi by 6-2, 6-1 sets to claim the title while Puja Devi had to be content with the runners-up title.
In the men’s singles meet, Premjit Singh had no difficulty in taming Brojendro Singh by 6-3 and 6-2 sets for the champion’s title.
The pair of T. Brojendro and Rivaskar overcame Premjit Singh and Leelenje by 6-3, 6-4 sets to lay their hands on the men’s doubles event title.
In the boys’ under-14 final, Luching Singh tamed Rajeev Singh by 6-2, 6-3 for the champion’s title.
