Eastern thrash LSC by 5-1 goals

Imphal, Dec. 19: Eastern Sporting Union defeated LSC Churchandpur by 5-1 goals to move into the second round of the 57th Sir Churchand Singh Football Tournament played at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

The LSC team scored an early goal through Darmawi in the 11th minute for the lead. However, Eastern Sporting Union fought back with K. Victor getting the equaliser in the 22nd minute and later consolidated with another goal in the 32nd minute to for a 2-1 goal lead.

Eastern Sporting Union dictated terms in the later stages of the game with Wornga Hangetting and Y. Anilkumar scoring in the 55th and 57th minutes of the match. Thangboi Chiru scored the fifth goal in injury time to outplay their opponents.

In the second match, Nambul Mapal Cultural Organisation thrashed MSYC Churchandpur by 8-3 goals to progress into the second round.

K. Newton Singh scored five goals Nambul Mapal, making him the highest scorer in the meet.

MYSC Churchandpur started on a positive note with Lhunminlen getting the opening goal in the 11th minute but Nambul Mapal replied by pumping in six goals in the first half.

In the second half, both sides scored two goals each.

Tennis meet

Katajinlu Golmei fetched double wins in the under-12 girls’ event of the 33rd State Open Tennis Championship played at Officer’s Club, Lamphelpat.

Katajinlu Golmei registered her first victory over Ng. Charmi by 4-2 games and later went to post her second win defeating L. Bindyarani by 4-0 games.In the under-10 boys’ event, Rahul Pamei ruled the turf by registering four victories defeating opponents Ch. Sushil by 4-0 games, O. Charles by 4-1 games, L. Paras by 4-0 games and K.Walter by 4-0 games. O. Charles won twice by defeating K.Walter by 4-1 games and Ch. Sushil by 4-0 games from Group A.

In group B, A. Mahesh worked his way to bring up three wins against S. Ashwajit, N. Moramba and S. Bicky to progress to the next round.
