Guwahati, Dec. 19: The Assam Handball Association (AHA) today appealed to the North Eastern Council to adopt a “uniform policy to promote sports” after the latter turned down a proposal for sponsorship towards holding the 36th junior boys’ national handball championship inJorhat from January 6 to 11.
Interacting with the media on the nationals, AHA general secretary Gautam Choudhury revealed this. The organising committee has prepared a budget of Rs 30 lakh to host the meet involving over 540 players from 29 states. “We have approached the petroleum and tea sectors, too, for help and some of them have assured us of assistance,” organising committee president Kamal Gogoi said. Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi and Olympian M.C. Mary Kom are expected to attend the inaugural ceremony on January 6.
