Archers aim for senior nationals

Jharkhand Archery Association on Thursday announced a strong line-up for the 34th Senior National Championship to be held at JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur from December 24 to 26, including golden girl Deepika Kumari.

The tournament is being organised jointly by Steel Plant Sports Board and Tata Steel.

Sixteen archers, both men and women, have been selected for recurve and compound sections. Of them, 10 have represented the country.

They are Deepika Kumari, Jayanta Talukdar, Reena Kumari, Gurucharan Singh, Bulbul Marandi, Binod Swansi, Jhano Hansda, Sudhakar Paswan, Sourav Datta and Arjun Rao.ďI always look forward to national championships,Ē said Deepika, a former cadet of Tata Archery Academy.

Tata Steelís Jayanta, Gurucharan from SAIL Academy, Bulbul of Dumka and Binod of Tata Archery Academy form the menís recurve outfit.

Deepika, now a manager with Tata Steel sports department, Asha Rani Horo (SAI, Ranchi), Reena (Ramgarh) and Sita Rani Tudu (Tata Archery Academy) comprise the evesí team.

Sudhakar, Sourav and Arjun (East Singhbhum) and Shahensha Biruily (Seraikela-Kharsawan) are in the menís compound team, while Jhano and Jyoti Kumar (Jharkhand Police), Rajni Patro (Seraikela-Kharsawan) and Sumanlata Murmu (Ranchi) are in the womenís section.

Dharmenra Tiwary and B.S. Rao will mentor the menís team while Purnima Mahto and D. Saiswari will guide the women. Association working secretary L. Murty said they had picked a strong outfit.
