Sharjah: Pakistan pulled off a stunning 11-run win over Sri Lanka in the first ODI, in Sharjah, on Wednesday to go 1-0 up in the five-match series.
For Pakistan, Junaid Khan took three wickets as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 311.
Earlier, Mohammed Hafeez scored a brilliant century to help Pakistan post 322 for five.
Hafeez hit seven boundaries and four sixes in his 129-ball innings. Suranga Lakmal finally dismissed him on 122. Apart from Hafeez, Sohaib Maqsood (73) and Sharjeel Khan (61) also contributed with half-centuries.
In fact, it was opener Sharjeel’s half-century on debut that set Pakistan’s innings off to a bright start.
Riding on gall and self-belief, Sharjeel chose Lasith Malinga’s second over to begin his surge and picked his moments wisely by rarely offering a poor stroke. Sharjeel sent three balls into the stands and six across the ropes in his run-a-ball 61.
