Three held for Boko gang rape

Borjhar, Dec. 18: Three persons were arrested today for an alleged gang rape of a girl under Boko police station in Kamrup district on December 9.

Police said they were arrested based on an FIR lodged by the girl’s family on Tuesday. The family complained that she was gang-raped by the three men on December 9.

Ramen Das, Jiban Kalita and Jiban Das were arrested from Guwahati where they were hiding after allegedly committing the crime.

“The FIR said she was raped on the evening of December 9 in the house of Jiban Das,” a source in Boko police station, about 65km from Guwahati, said.

The accused, all aged over 30, are married and were taking shelter in Guwahati. Ramen hails from Kalitapara while Jiban Das and Jiban Kalita are residents of Pritipur and Ranibhitha under Boko police station.

A case (495/2013) has been registered at Boko police station and the three have been booked under Section 376 (G) IPC on charges of gang rape. The three, if found guilty, may face imprisonment of not less than 10 years.

They will be produced in a court tomorrow. The police said medical examinations of the victim and the three accused had been conducted and they were waiting for reports. The police, however, refused to provide further details.
