Year-end debut for station food hub

Call it a New Year gift for rail passengers.

A swank fast food court at Dhanbad station will be inaugurated in the last week of December. The first-of-its-kind outlet, spread over 90sqm, has come up on platform No. 1 at a total cost of Rs 30 lakh. Developed by Brindavan Food Products, the eatery has been named “Comesum — The Food Junction” and will cater to customers 24X7.

Senior divisional commercial manager, Dhanbad, East Central Railway, Dayanand said the food court would start its operation as soon as the rates for different items were finalised.

“Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which had issued the tender to Brindavan Food Products to set up and run the outlet for three years, will fix the prices,” he said.

Around 200 food items, starting from beverages like tea, coffee, soft drinks, lassi, kesar milk and slush to snacks like samosa, patties and paneer chilla to proper meals like rajma chawal will be available.

Senior general manager of Brindavan Anil Gaur said, “The food junction at Dhanbad station will have seating arrangements for 24 people with six tables. We will also offer takeaway facility.”

He added that once IRCTC gave its nod, Comesum would deliver food on trains too. Orders can be placed on 011-41100100, mentioning the train name, compartment number and other details.

Brindavan Food Products runs more than 200 such outlets under the same brand name at railway stations, airports and in different cities across the country.

Once the train arrives at Dhanbad station, the order will be served.

Separate kitchens for vegetarian and non-vegetarian products have been developed at the food court for the passengers’ convenience.
