New Delhi, Dec. 18: Malaysian carrier Malindo Air, which made its maiden flight just nine months back, will start operations in India from December 30.

According to the airline officials, Malindo offers the facilities of a full-service carrier at a price which is a little higher than a budget airline.

“We manage that as our operating costs are less than other airlines,” Chandran Rama Muthy, chief executive officer of Malindo Air, said.

“We will start flying from Kuala Lumpur to New Delhi at the end of this month, followed by Trichy in Tamil Nadu on January 2, and Mumbai on February 15. Malindo is also looking to fly to Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Pune, Cochin, Chennai and Madurai by the end of next year,” Muthy said.

Malindo Air already operates in Thailand and Bangladesh.

He said the airline expected to fly around 2.5 lakh of the estimated 3 lakh travellers who are likely to fly from India to Malaysia in view of the Malaysian government’s “Visit Malaysia” campaign.
