Calcutta: Bengal’s women’s pairs of Sushma Burman and Beena Shah have won all their league matches so far at the 4th National Lawn Bowls Championship, here at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) Maidan Pavilion, and are on top of the table.
They have only one match to go against the lowly-placed Delhi. The league matches for pairs and triples for both men and women got underway on Monday.
Bengal have already been crowned champions in the three categories decided so far.
However, in men’s triple matches, Jharkhand are going strong with Bengal trailing in the league. Both teams will play two more matches on Tuesday and will have to take on each other in the last league game, which could turn out to be the decider for the gold medal.
In men’s pair, Bengal’s Kamal Sharma and Soumen Banerjee are in a comfortable position, having won all their matches so far. The final results for men’s and women’s pairs and triples would be decided by Tuesday evening.
