Siliguri, Dec. 16: North Bengal University has received Rs 5 crore from the state planning board as the first allotment of funds for the construction of the varsity’s second campus on the premises of the Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College.
An NBU official said with the first tranche, construction of an office, five classrooms and a boys’ hostel would begin this month.
“The state planning board has released Rs 5 crore for the construction of the second campus at Jalpaiguri earlier this month. This is the first allotment we have received from the state government for setting up the infrastructure of the second campus. The state public works department will start the construction this month. It will probably take around two to three months to complete the work,” said D.P. Dwivedi, the registrar (officiating) of NBU.
The university had received permission from the state government in 2010 for setting up the second campus on a plot of 33.04 acres on the premises of the Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College.
