Kohima, Dec. 16: The combined Christmas advent celebration of the Raj Bhavan, the Legislators Fellowship and the Legislative Assembly was held last evening at the Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan here.
Governor Ashwani Kumar, chief minister Neiphiu Rio and Nagaland Assembly Speaker Chotisuh Sazo, along with their wives lit the candle in the presence of the gathering.
The programme began with the singing of Silent Night as the congregational carol, followed by the invocation of God’s blessings by the bishop of Kohima, Rev. James Thoppil, and scripture reading by Rev. Arenla Longchar.
Rio, on behalf of the government, thanked the governor and his wife for hosting the advent celebration in a grand manner. Governor Kumar, in his greetings, expressed gratitude to Rio for his idea to have a combined Christmas advent celebration. He said Christianity has brought many good things to the people of Nagaland. With the advent of Christianity, all tribes have come together as one and the practice of “head-hunting” has been abandoned.
Special numbers were presented by choirs from different churches in Kohima, including the Christ King Church, Phom Baptist Church, City Church, Ao Baptist Church and the Police Baptist Church. The other participants were the Young Legislators choir, Chief Secretary’s choir, Nagaland Adolescent Girls Club and the Renbeni Odyuo.
The governor, chief minister, Speaker and their wives then cut the Christmas cake, while Pastor Shan Kikon shared the tidings. State chaplain Rev. K. Luruo pronounced the benediction.
Narola Chuba was the compere of the programme while Ameü üsou and pastor Paman Phom, youth pastor of Phom Baptist church, were the organist and conductor respectively.
