Expert eye on tourney

Jharkhand Badminton Association secretary K. Prabhakar Rao has been appointed as an observer for the 78th Senior National Badminton Championship to be held in New Delhi from December 17 to 24.

The championship is the biggest tournament of the country with top shuttlers like Saina Nehwal, P.V. Sindhu, Pradnya Gadre and P. Kashyap participating in the event organised under the banner of Badminton Association of India (BAI).

As an observer, Raos job will be to supervise the tournament as well as to keep a watch on the performance of the shuttlers. He will also keep a list of players who perform well in the tournament.

I feel honoured to be appointed the observer for such a prestigious event. I will try my best to do a good job, Rao said, adding many top players would be in action at the meet.

Jamshedpur-based Rao boasts an enviable CV.

He was an observer for the All India Senior Major Ranking Tournament, Bangalore, in 2013.

Rao played the same role during East Zone Championship in Bihar in 2011.

Rao, also the joint secretary of BAI, was the manager of the national team for SAF games in Bangladesh in 2010 and Singapore Open in 2009. He was also a technical official during the 2010 Commonwealth Games, held in New Delhi.
