Guwahati, Dec. 15: A poor show by Assam batsmen disappointed the home crowd on the first day of a four-day Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 plate group B match against Andhra Pradesh at Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon today.
Electing to bat, Assamís top and middle orders collapsed and were bundled out for 192 in 70.4 overs in the first innings. The visitors were 42 for no loss in 17 overs at close of play.
Andhra pacers N. Vineel Kumar and K. Sashikanth took some vital early wickets.
Barring opener Hrishikesh Tamuliís unbeaten 76 (7x4), none of the Assam batsmen could impress the Sunday crowd. Batsmen Yatin Malik and Yasir Ali failed yet again with the former snicking one off Sashikanth to wicket-keeper U.M. Girinath for nought and Ali getting out for only seven.
At one stage Assam were reduced to 46 for four in 13.6 overs before Tamuli and Romario Sharma (28) staged a rescue, sharing a 57-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Tail-ender Rajakuddin Ahmed (29, 2x4, 1x6) also shared a 48-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Tamuli. Vineel Kumar returned with a haul of five for 49 and Sashikanth scalped three for 58.
In their chase, openers K. Ashwin Hebbar and Ch. Kranthikumar were unbeaten on 22 (4x4) and 14 (2x4) respectively.
